Endoscopy
At Emirates European Hospital, we are committed to providing exceptional healthcare services, including state-of-the-art endoscopy procedures. Our team of highly skilled gastroenterologists and medical professionals utilize the latest technology to ensure precise diagnostics and patient comfort.
What Is Endoscopy?
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows doctors to examine the inside of organs using a thin, flexible tube with a camera. It helps diagnose and treat conditions affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and other systems, including ulcers, gastritis, polyps, bleeding, strictures, and certain infections. Many procedures are done as day cases with quick recovery.
Our Endoscopy Services
Gastroscopy (Upper GI Endoscopy)
Views the esophagus, stomach, and first part of the small intestine.
Common reasons: heartburn, upper abdominal pain, anemia, bleeding, suspected ulcers, H. pylori.
What to expect: short fasting period; sedation options available.
Colonoscopy
Examines the colon and rectum.
Common reasons: screening for colon cancer, bleeding, change in bowel habits, abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
What to expect: bowel preparation the day before; sedation for comfort.
Cervical Endoscopy (Cervicoscopy)
Visualizes the cervical canal and ectocervix using a slim endoscope via the vagina.
Common reasons: unexplained bleeding, cervical polyps, suspected cervical stenosis, follow-up of abnormal cervical screening, fertility evaluations, or when a targeted biopsy is needed.
Benefits: precise visualization, ability to biopsy or remove small lesions in the same sitting, typically minimal discomfort and rapid return to normal activity.
Who performs it: our gynecology specialists using sterile, modern equipment.
Preparation: usually none or minimal; you may be advised to avoid intercourse/tampons for 24–48 hours after.
Capsule Endoscopy
A swallowable camera capsule to assess the small intestine, which is hard to reach with standard scopes.
Common reasons: obscure GI bleeding, suspected small-bowel Crohn’s disease or tumors.
What to expect: you wear a recorder; the capsule is passed naturally.
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
Combines endoscopy and ultrasound to image the digestive tract and surrounding organs/lymph nodes with high detail.
Uses: staging tumors, evaluating biliary & pancreatic disease, guiding fine-needle biopsies.
Bronchoscopy
Examines the airways and lungs.
Uses: persistent cough, infections, airway blockages, biopsy of lung lesions.
